Names, and parents who should not be allowed to choose them

Yes, I know it's WAY premature to be thinking about names, but I was mousing around after making the cake (see previous entry) when I came across a debate on iVillage.com about naming kids. That, in and of itself, sort of set me off because I get a little cranky when people get too creative about names. Sorry. Call me a fuddy-duddy if you must. You're probably right, but that's me. Maybe it's because I almost got named Anastasia Alexandra. (one too many viewings of Dr. Zhivago, I suspect, on the part of my parents.)

But back to the topic at hand. So I'm going along, reading the thread anyway and I come across the following and had to share:

"Just discovered this blog! What a treat, I love talking about names :)

I'd love to get folks' comments on the name Agatha. Is it still too old-lady-esque? I'd love to have a little Aggie someday (as my DH is from a farm and we now live in the big city). My husband and I also love Agatha Christie. Any thoughts? Otherwise my stand-by old school name is Adelaide unless it becomes too popular before we have a baby."

Anyway, I'm delighted to report that someone posted immediately thereafter, with no small level of restraint: "Agatha Christie's already been done. Try something else."

Here's another set of, I think, overly trendy names suggested on the same list. And, again, my apologies if this is your cup of tea. I am, admittedly, pretty stuffy about names:

Verity Grace
Keelin Elizabeth
Kira Patrice
Evelyn Iona
What do you think? Any favorites?
