My daughter expressed the thought this morning that Fall comes because it's windy.

Being a didactic soul, I saw a teachable moment and went for it! Well, actually, honey, I said as I warmed up to my topic, Fall is a season, like summer is a season....on and on I went.

Then I got to the part about holidays. Thanksgiving, I said, is a time when we give thanks for the good things in our lives and eat turkey and stuffing and some great desserts.

My daughter, having clearly picked up on the only important part of my teachable moment, perked up visibly and asked, AND DOUGHNUTS?
